Aristo reads somewhere that there is rollerblading around a park in Palermo and becomes convinced that we must go, despite the knowledge that I am the clumsiest person in the world and will probably break my own face. I’m willing to give it a go, even though I am fully aware that I have no health insurance. What’s life without a little risk?
Thankfully, it’s hot as tits outside and I am able to coerce him into hiring some absurd-looking pedal cart so that we can have some shade. Sadly, the angle of the sun is such that the cart provides about 2 inches of actual shade, but I’ll take what I can get.
The cart actually proves even more dangerous than skates, as we careen around at speeds approaching 3km/hr and threaten to run numerous bikers off the road. From our little cart, we look out on hockey matches, people rowing boats through the water, and countless skating accidents (none of which we caused, thank you).
There’s a free concert in the park, some BA rock band fully decked out in chains and heavy makeup, with people lounging everywhere, basking in the liveliness of their city.
It’s a day full of spectacular surprises. By which I mean, cotton candy.
