Exploring South Coast NSW

August 6, 2016

The South Coast is widely regarded as having some of the best beaches in all of Australia, and one look at the crystal-clear, brilliant blue water and white silicone sand will totally convince you as well. Perhaps most notably of all, Jervis Bay is just 90 minutes down the coast from Wollongong and is nothing short of paradise. Here are some of the South Coast’s highlights:

Hyams Beach

Perfect for snorkelling and diving, Jervis Bay is home to one of the most famously beautiful beaches in all of NSW, Hyams Beach. With its squeaky white sand, turquoise water, and shelter from large waves, you’d be hard pressed to find a better spot to spend a day (or a weekend).

Booderee National Park

Also in the Jervis Bay area, there’s an awesome national park filled with campsites for the best beachy weekend away. Green Patch and its beach of the same name are especially fantastic; expect to pay about $30 for two people to camp in a tent site with room for 1 car. That includes entrance to the NP, which is usually $11.

Cathedral Rocks

About 30min south of Wollongong, Kiama is an absolutely adorable little coastal town with some amazing things to see. Besides the awesome Kiama Blowhole, it is also home to another famous spot, Australian Traveller’s #9 Best View in Australia: Cathedral Rocks.

Glad to hear it, Sandeep! I have a few posts coming up on the Northern Beaches, Melbourne, and Kangaroo Island from recent trips, plus I still need to get that South Coast trip on the blog. Plenty of new stuff in the works, too 🙂

Thanks Brooke. I will definitely come back to see your updated info on the south coast. I’m visiting over the the weekend so I don’t think I can make it to Ben Boyd national park. May be I will do another visit after you update the blog 🙂

    Cheers!!
    Have a lovely weekend.

Hi Sandeep, thanks for the kind words! I do wish I had more information on here— this is an older post and it really needs to be updated! I actually took a road trip all the way to Eden just a few weeks ago, so you’ll have to come back to the blog and check it out when I finish writing it up 🙂 Hope your trip goes well, it’s such a beautiful part of the world (and if you have time, I can’t recommend Ben Boyd National Park highly enough!).
