After another overnight bus (and several embarrassing bike accidents on the way to the bus), we arrive in Luang Prabang at 530am, gorging and cold. On principal, we refuse to pay the shocking price ($5 takes on new meaning in Asia) and instead decide to the 3kms into town with all of our bags. We are joined by our Dutch friend, Manuel, who is a seasoned Luang Prabang visitor and leads us right to the market in town for breakfast.
We spend our next few days indulging in 40,000k ($5) massages and 10,000k (~$1) all-you-can-eat street stir-fries. We also explore along the Mekong, gaze at the magical Wat Ho Pha Bang Temple, and hike up the hill to watch sunset from the beautiful Chomsi Temple. Suffice it to say that we are entirely smitten with this little French-influenced town.
