Back on the beach in Nha Trang & Mui Ne

January 17, 2014

After our accidental side trip to Phan Thiet, our beach getaway to Mui Ne is fairly rushed. As it turns out, though, this may not be such bad news― our initial impressions of the beach are not very positive. Seeing as we live less than a block from the beach in Wollongong, we are a bit spoilt when it comes to spectacular ocean swims at all times of the day. We are used to pristine Australian beaches that aren’t very crowded and clear water that is, admittedly, a bit chilly, so we are naturally a bit shocked to see the beach in Mui Ne that everyone has been telling us we must visit. There’s an enormous amount of rubbish heaped along the beach and the water smells a bit funky before we are even in, so there are no broken hearts about only having one day here.

Of course, we swim anyway, but we are also pretty glad to be boarding a bus for Nha Trang not long after. While Nha Trang is also on the coast, we are a bit too discouraged to visit the beach again, so we opt instead to explore the city. For about $3 per person, we pay 2 men on scooters to drive us around to a number of landmarks and we ride shotgun, hair flapping in the wind. The highlight of the day is the Big Buddha.
