After an amazing week in Luang Prabang, we are back to Vientiane before heading to Cambodia. We arrive early in the morning after a surprisingly delightful night on a sleeper bus with *gasp* double beds?! Seems to good to be true, but I swear it happened.
We spend upwards of 2 hours looking for suitably cheap accomodation, but finally are forced to give in and pay $25 for a fancy hotel. In retrospect, $25 for one night (between 2 people, no less) is a pretty hot deal, but it seems like a tragedy at the time. In order to get our money’s worth, we spend the next 24 hours in the hotel, taking our first hot shower in 7 days (and then several more showers after that, just for good measure), catching up on writing, catching up on sleep in an actual bed, and eating large amounts of street food while watching Across the Universe.
All in all, it’s a massive success. We did not realise how badly we needed a rest after being on the go for the last month. It was really pleasant to do almost nothing, even if it was just one day.
Next, we are off to Phnom Penh via another delightful bus.
