  • Come with us to the annual camel racing festival in Wadi Rum, Jordan 🐪🇯🇴✨ We found out about the races from a camel guide in the desert, and it was pure coincidence that it lined up with our month in Jordan, so of course we had to go check it out. And it was every bit as incredible as it sounds! As the only foreigners here, it really felt like we got an authentic glimpse into Bedouin culture— and we couldn’t wait to share it with you!   • Bedouins have been using domesticated camels as transportation (& a source of milk) for thousands of years, and unlike some of the other places where you can ride camels internationally, the camels in Wadi Rum are truly happy, healthy & so well cared for. We had a really positive experience with every camel we interacted with in Wadi Rum & saw firsthand how important these animals are to Bedouin culture, as well as how lovingly they’re treated. If you’re considering a camel ride, we’d strongly recommend skipping busy sites like Petra (& definitely the Egyptian Pyramids or Mt Sinai) where camels are often overworked & poorly treated. Instead, support ethical camel tourism in Wadi Rum, where the welfare of these incredible animals is a priority.   • Climbing in one of the most spectacular deserts in the world, Wadi Rum 😍🧗🏻‍♀️ International climbers have been scaling these red sandstone cliffs since the 80s, when a few European legends teamed up with local Bedouin guides to chart routes all across the desert. Today, there are around 30-40 (impeccably!) bolted sport routes, some spectacular multi-pitch, and an entire universe of trad— but Bedouins are the real OGs. The tribes who live in Wadi Rum have been navigating these cliffs for centuries to hunt, travel & survive in the rugged landscape. BAREFOOT, no less. For the history & the scenery & the complete solitude, Wadi Rum is easily one of the coolest places I’ve ever climbed and we can’t wait to come back next year!!   • We finally made it to Petra & we are LOSING OUR MINDS 🤯✨ This ancient city in southern Jordan was carved into rose-hued sandstone cliffs over 2,000 years ago, and honestly, it’s even more awe-inspiring in person than we could have imagined. Originally built by the Nabataeans around the 4th century BCE, Petra became a vital trade hub connecting Arabia, Egypt & the Mediterranean. The Nabataeans were master engineers and designed complex water systems that enabled them to thrive in the arid desert—Petra even had pools, gardens & fountains at its peak! From the iconic Treasury (Al-Khazneh) to the hidden Monastery (Al-Deir) & Royal Tombs to the High Place of Sacrifice, every corner whispers mysteries of a civilisation that flourished in the most unlikely of places. Come with us to the annual camel racing festival in Wadi Rum, Jordan 🐪🇯🇴✨ We found out about the races from a camel guide in the desert, and it was pure coincidence that it lined up with our month in Jordan, so of course we had to go check it out.
