  • WELCOME TO JORDAN 🇯🇴✨ We’ve spent the last month exploring this small Middle Eastern country & have heard hundreds of times— “welcome to Jordan!”— shouted out the car window, smiled from passersby on the sidewalk, and offered in greeting at nearly every shop & restaurant that we’ve stepped foot in. The people of Jordan couldn’t be more warm & welcoming, and it’s also so clear just how happy they are that we’re HERE. In the last year, tourism has plummeted in Jordan due to the war surging around its peaceful borders— for a country where tourism accounts for 15% of the GDP (the largest private employment sector), the ramifications of fewer travellers is profoundly felt. For us, it’s been kind of incredible walking through Petra with just a handful of other people or having the usually packed canyon of Wadi Mujib all to ourselves, but we also know that the last 12 months have been extremely hard on the locals. We are really excited to share our incredible experiences in Jordan— not only because this country is SO beautiful & the food is amazing & the history is mind-blowing & the landscapes are wild, but also because it’s a fantastic time to visit Jordan!   • SUMMITTING MT ASSINIBOINE 🏔️🇨🇦✨ When we hauled massive packs 35km into the BC backcountry, it was with designs on summiting the park’s namesake peak, the tallest mountain in the southern Canadian ranges & the so-called Matterhorn of the Rockies: Mt Assiniboine. In good conditions, this is a fun & scrambly 5.5 trad route up the North Ridge, and we’d heard climbers quote a comfortable 6-8hrs return to the Hind Hut (a small shelter maintained by the Alpine Club of Canada that acts as a basecamp for most ascents). As luck would have it, a summer snowstorm of slightly epic proportions blew through the park just as we were making our way up to the Hind Hut. For 48hrs, we were confined to a few square metres, waiting out the snow that had completely socked us in (& later, waiting for a thaw to make the mountain climbable again), slowly losing hope for a summit attempt. On the 3rd day, with little reason to believe we’d make it through the route but under the guise of ‘just seeing how far we got’, we set off over deep snow & icy ledges, watching every other climbing party turn around while we continued upwards with a mix of apprehension & blind optimism. We earned every metre on this one and it was only with a strong & extremely determined team that we managed to top out AND return back to the hut safely in a whopping 13hrs, with massive thunder on our tails & rain mere moments behind.   • HIIII FROM MT ASSINIBOINE 🏔️🪻✨ Several years ago, I saw a single photo of Mt Assiniboine & became instantly obsessed with visiting this Canadian provincial park on the border of BC & Alberta. What I didn’t know at the time was just how much of a hidden gem this area really is! “…Cinnabon?” - every person’s reaction when I told them where we were climbing this summer 😂 But this is no bakery… it’s one of the most spectacular (& apparently underrated) parks in all of Canada, all centred around the iconic Mt Assiniboine— appropriately nicknamed “the Matterhorn of the Rockies” 🏔️ It’s a loooooong backpacking trip to even get into the park (30km to Lake Magog from our entry point at Sunshine Banff), but once you’re here, it’s a paradise of lakeside campsites, scenic day hikes, class 3/4 scrambles & airy summits truly unlike anywhere else. And with precious few permits available, it’s easy to feel like you’ve got the whole place to yourself 🤩 Sharing everything from our 10-day itinerary to recommended day hikes to our white-knuckled summit of Mt Assiniboine herself over this next week, so stay tuned! SUMMITTING MT ASSINIBOINE 🏔️🇨🇦✨ When we hauled massive packs 35km into the BC backcountry, it was with designs on summiting the park’s namesake peak, the tallest mountain in the southern Canadian ranges & the so-called Matterhorn of the Rockies: Mt Assiniboine. In good conditions, this is a fun & scrambly 5.5 trad route up the North Ridge, and we’d heard climbers quote a comfortable 6-8hrs return to the Hind Hut (a small shelter maintained by the Alpine Club of Canada that acts as a basecamp for most ascents). As luck would have it, a summer snowstorm of slightly epic proportions blew through the park just as we were making our way up to the Hind Hut. For 48hrs, we were confined to a few square metres, waiting out the snow that had completely socked us in (& later, waiting for a thaw to make the mountain climbable again), slowly losing hope for a summit attempt. On the 3rd day, with little reason to believe we’d make it through the route but under the guise of ‘just seeing how far we got’, we set off over deep snow & icy ledges, watching every other climbing party turn around while we continued upwards with a mix of apprehension & blind optimism. We earned every metre on this one and it was only with a strong & extremely determined team that we managed to top out AND return back to the hut safely in a whopping 13hrs, with massive thunder on our tails & rain mere moments behind. In good conditions, this is a fun & scrambly 5.5 trad route up the North Ridge, and we’d heard climbers quote a comfortable 6-8hrs return to the Hind Hut (a small shelter maintained by the Alpine Club of Canada that acts as a basecamp for most ascents). As luck would have it, a summer snowstorm of slightly epic proportions blew through the park just as we were making our way up to the Hind Hut. For 48hrs, we were confined to a few square metres, waiting out the snow that had completely socked us in (& later, waiting for a thaw to make the mountain climbable again), slowly losing hope for a summit attempt. On the 3rd day, with little reason to believe we’d make it through the route but under the guise of ‘just seeing how far we got’, we set off over deep snow & icy ledges, watching every other climbing party turn around while we continued upwards with a mix of apprehension & blind optimism. We earned every metre on this one and it was only with a strong & extremely determined team that we managed to top out AND return back to the hut safely in a whopping 13hrs, with massive thunder on our tails & rain mere moments behind. SUMMITTING MT ASSINIBOINE 🏔️🇨🇦✨ When we hauled massive packs 35km into the BC backcountry, it was with designs on summiting the park’s namesake peak, the tallest mountain in the southern Canadian ranges & the so-called Matterhorn of the Rockies: Mt Assiniboine.
